Letter from the General Secretary of AKEL to Mikis Theodorakis
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 29th July 2020, Nicosia
The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou sent a letter to Mikis Theodorakis on the occasion of his 95th birthday.
The letter is as follows:
“On the occasion of your birthday today, the Central Committee of AKEL, and myself personally, wish to express our infinite appreciation to your person, for all the significant and invaluable work you have contributed to world culture, the Greek people and the peoples of the world in general.
The Cypriot people never forgets all that you have offered to it, both with your cultural creation, as well as your militant stand. In turbulent difficult times, full of pain and devastation, you stood on the side of Cyprus and with your unsurpassed cultural creation, your unwavering faith in the just cause of the struggle, but also with your dynamic presence you gave courage and comfort to our people to withstand and endure the ceaseless hardships. We are always looking for your songs to accompany and inspire us during every difficult moment Cyprus is going through, as it unfortunately is today.
From the bottom of my heart I wish you are always well, in good health, creative and, as throughout your entire life, an ardent defender of universal ideals, freedom, democracy, human rights and social justice.”
